Project FAQs

What construction works are occurring on Old Broome Road?

  • Construction of a new 3m wide shared path on the airport side of Old Broome Road

  • Construction of a new slip lane at the Sandpiper Avenue and Old Broome Road roundabout

  • Pavement repairs and resurfacing between Sandpiper Avenue and Short Street including the Sandpiper Avenue and Old Broome Road roundabout

Why are these works occurring on Old Broome Road?

These upgrades aim to improve safety, accessibility and traffic flow:

  • New path will be a safer, more accessible route for walking and riding into town. This will be achieved by reducing the number of road crossings required, providing physical separation between cars and pedestrians through the use of a raised kerb and upgraded fences over the main culvert.

  • Congestion at the Sandpiper Avenue and Old Broome Road roundabout will be reduced during peak periods allowing a more balanced flow of traffic.

  • Pavement repairs and resurfacing protect this critical road, ensuring it continues to be a safe and smooth road into the future.

When will works be finished?

Works are expected to be completed in July 2026.

When will Old Broome Road be closed?

  • The closure will occur in stages with the severity of the impact varying throughout the project.

  • As per project commencement, the estimated impacts are summarised below. The timeframes are subject to change.

  • Please refer to table above.
