The Shire of Broome is calling on the community to share their historical photographs as part of an exciting new public art project at Cable Beach.
As part of Stage 2 of the Walmanyjun Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment, a permanent photo collage will be created using community-submitted images. The artwork will be featured in the new central plaza area and form part of a broader suite of public art installations planned for delivery in mid-to-late 2026.
Under the “Be Part of the Picture” campaign, residents are encouraged to submit old photographs capturing faces, places, buildings and landscapes that reflect Cable Beach’s rich history and stories.
Shire President Chris Mitchell said the project was a unique way for the community to be involved in shaping the visual identity of the redeveloped foreshore.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for locals to celebrate Broome’s character and history through images that mean something to them — and to see those memories become part of a lasting legacy,” Shire President Chris Mitchell said.
To contribute, photos can be submitted online. For full terms and conditions, visit www.broome.wa.gov.au/cable-beach-collage
