The Shire of Broome would like to remind residents that the usual ANZAC Day services locally are cancelled this year due to COVID-19 - but the community is encouraged to pay their respects in a new, innovative way.

RSL WA has confirmed that people across the state will be encouraged to stand at the end of their driveways, balconies or verandahs at 6am on April 25 to pay respect to our servicemen and women.

Locally, ABC Kimberley and Triple M Broome will be playing their part, with the community able to listen to The Ode and The Last Post, with a minute's silence also to be held as usual.

The Dawn Service will be broadcast on ABC TV and online from 5.30am.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said although COVID-19 had impacted the way residents go about their everyday lives, paying our respects on ANZAC Day was important.

"ANZAC Day is a critical date in our nation's calendar and in Broome we have a prominent RSL and a community that wholeheartedly appreciates the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women," he said.

"In the absence of normal activities and events, I'd encourage everyone who is fit and able to show their respect by taking part in the virtual ANZAC Day service on Saturday, April 25."

RSL Broome president Persine Ayensberg said more information was available at the RSL WA website or Facebook page.
