Cable Beach vehicle access ramp remains closed

Access to the vehicle access ramp that provides access to Cable Beach north of the rocks has been restricted as a result of damage to the vehicle ramp and the beach from a rainfall event at the beginning of February.

The ramp would normally be open from 6am until 8pm in February for protection of nesting turtles and turtle hatchlings, and open fully from 1 March, however, this is always dependent on public safety being maintained.

As a result of this incident extensive loss of beach sand has necessitated extended closure of the ramp. Damage is normally resolved through natural beach coastal accretion processes.

An assessment will be undertaken after spring tides over the next week to determine whether the storm damage has been resolved.

Opening of the ramp will occur after this assessment if sufficient accretion has occurred, and we will advertise projected opening date once assessment has occurred.
