The Shire of Broome is playing its part in ensuring the safety of the community amid growing concerns around COVID-19.

From this week, cleaning services of Shire-run facilities and public toilets will increase.

The current disinfection program of spaces at the Shire administration building, Broome Public Library, Broome Civic Centre and Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre will become more frequent.

Cleaners will focus on door handles, hand rails and benches at Shire-run facilities, while also undertaking a more thorough clean of surfaces that people regularly use.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said that while the State and Federal Governments were responsible for spearheading the response to COVID-19, the Shire is trying to be proactive in preventing the virus’ potential spread.

“The health of the Broome community is the Shire’s number one priority and hopefully the increased sanitisation measures will provide additional peace of mind,” he said.

“While the Shire is being instructed by the State and Federal Health Departments in terms of our actions around COVID-19, ensuring our facilities are as clean as they can be will play its part in the response.”
