The Shire of Broome is inviting community members to have their say as we begin developing a new Community Safety Plan to guide safety initiatives and crime prevention strategies for the next four years.

Community safety remains one of the top priorities for Broome, and the Shire recognises the importance of working together to address concerns and improve security.

By listening to the community, the Shire aims to implement effective strategies that create a safer environment for everyone.

To kickstart the consultation process, the Community Safety Survey has been launched, providing an opportunity for residents to share their insights and experiences.

The survey is available online, and hard copies can be collected from the Shire Offices to ensure accessibility for all. The survey will remain open until 7 March 2025.

Shire President Chris Mitchell emphasised the importance of community participation in shaping the plan.

"We know that safety is one of the community’s biggest priorities, and we want to ensure that our new Community Safety Plan reflects the needs and concerns of those who live and work here. By participating in the survey, residents can help us take meaningful steps toward a safer, more secure Broome."

The survey marks the first step in an ongoing conversation, with additional opportunities for feedback planned in the coming months.

Following the survey, the Shire will host community workshops, open to all residents, providing a space for meaningful discussions on key safety concerns and solutions.

Once a draft Community Safety Plan is developed, there will be the chance to review and provide further input before the final plan is adopted.

The Shire encourages all residents to take part in this important initiative and contribute to the future of community safety in Broome.
