The Shire of Broome wants honest, comprehensive feedback from our community on how we are performing and where we can improve.

To ensure this process is independent, unbiased, and completely anonymous, the Shire has engaged independent consultancy Catalyse to conduct the biannual community perception survey.

The survey commences today, with the results to be compared with the Shire’s previous performance and other local governments.

The findings are then collated into a report known as the Scorecard, which helps shape future iterations of the Shire’s strategic Council Plan – our visionary document outlining priorities for the Broome community.

In 2024, a total of 1,190 residents, business operators and ratepayers undertook the Scorecard.

This year, all ratepayers will receive a Scorecard by email or post to complete. While it will be sent directly to ratepayers, the Scorecard is open for everyone in the community to complete.

Shire President Chris Mitchell encourages all community members to have a say on the future of their town.

“The Shire has delivered a range of important projects and upgrades over the past few years, with more still to come,” he said.

“It’s important that our Shire vision continues to reflect the community’s own aspirations for the future.

Our vision is to create a future for everyone, and this feedback helps ensure we are prioritising the right things.

“The Scorecard gives the community the opportunity to rate the Shire’s performance across our core services, facilities, major projects and infrastructure.

“This feedback helps us understand how we’re tracking and where the community would like us to focus our efforts in the short to medium term.

“I encourage everyone to take part by completing the Scorecard and sharing their feedback.”

Background

The Shire has undertaken a community perception survey biannually since 2020, providing a consistent and reliable way to measure community sentiment, monitor performance over time, and guide strategic decision-making. It is primarily used to inform actions under the Council Plan, the Shire’s overarching strategic document, and also contributes to the development of other key informing strategies and plans.
