Get involved with Shire working groups
Published on 12 January 2026
The Shire of Broome is calling for expressions of interest from community members who would like to stay informed and provide valuable feedback on Shire initiatives.
A select few of the Shire’s community reference groups have recently refreshed their terms of reference, creating an opportunity for new community members to join and contribute to key initiatives that support positive outcomes for Broome.
Arts and Culture Reference Group
The Arts and Culture Reference Group will oversee the implementation of the Shire of Broome Arts and Culture Strategy and Action Plan, receiving updates and providing feedback. The group will work collaboratively to support the delivery of arts and culture initiatives and act as a link between the Shire, Council, and the community, helping ensure projects reflect local values and celebrate Broome’s unique identity.
Community Safety Working Group
The Shire is also seeking community representatives for the Community Safety Working Group. This group will work alongside local service providers and Shire officers to oversee delivery of the Community Safety Plan and ensure actions respond to community needs.
The primary purpose of the two community reference groups is to:
- Oversee the implementation of key strategic plan actions.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders towards shared community goals.
- Act as community champions, helping raise awareness and support for the strategic plan.
- Receive updates and provide feedback on Shire initiatives, while identifying opportunities and emerging trends within the community.
Shire President Chris Mitchell encouraged community members who are passionate about positive community outcomes to apply.
“Local knowledge and lived experience are essential. These groups will help ensure our plans are delivered in a way that reflects community priorities and strengthens Broome’s cultural and social wellbeing.”
Community members with an interest in arts and culture, community development, safety, or local collaboration are encouraged to submit an expression of interest.
Expressions of interest open on 12 January and close on 5 February 2026.
