Harold Tracey was re-elected as the Shire of Broome president at a Special Meeting of Council held on Monday night, following his re-election to Council at the weekend’s Local Government Election.

Desiree Male was also retained as deputy president, while Councillors Peter Taylor and Philip Matsumoto were sworn in after being elected by the public.

Cr Tracey has served Council for eight years and Cr Male has been a Councillor for 12 years, with the pair now entering their third term as president and deputy president respectively.

Councillors are elected to a four-year term, with elections held every two years.

This year there was a 3.29% increase in voter turnout from the 2019 election, with 30.57% of the 7073 total electors casting a vote.

At the Special Meeting of Council on Monday evening, Cr Tracey thanked both the Broome community and his fellow Councillors for their support.

“It is with great privilege that I have been given the opportunity to lead the Broome community for a third time,” he said.

“I look forward to carrying on initiatives surrounding community safety, the Broome Boating Facility and Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment.

“Broome holds a future for everyone and I am excited to see the future unfold, with the collaboration of Council, our wonderful community and the Shire.”
