Have Your Say on Broome’s Public Health Plan
Published on 17 November 2025
The Shire of Broome is inviting the community to help shape its new Public Health Plan, with the first stage of consultation now open through a community survey.
Under the WA Public Health Act 2016, all local governments are required to prepare a Public Health Plan to guide how they promote, protect, and improve the health and wellbeing of their communities. The Shire’s new plan will set out local priorities and actions to support a healthier, more connected Broome.
Shire of Broome President Chris Mitchell said the community’s input will be vital in ensuring the plan reflects local needs and aspirations.
“Public health is about much more than the absence of illness — it’s about creating an environment where everyone can live well, stay active, and feel connected,” he said.
“We want to hear from residents about what matters most to them when it comes to health and wellbeing in Broome — whether that’s access to healthy food, support for mental health, opportunities to be active, or building stronger community connections.”
The plan will address multiple areas of wellbeing, including social, biological, and psychological health. Some of the key focus areas are expected to include:
- Active lifestyles
- Healthy eating and nutrition
- Disease prevention and health protection
- Mental health support
- Community participation and volunteering
- Connection and belonging
The community survey marks the first step in developing the plan and is open now at www.broome.wa.gov.au/PHP-2025
Feedback gathered will help shape the draft Public Health Plan, which will be released for further community review in the coming months
“This is an important opportunity for our community to guide how the Shire supports the health and wellbeing of residents — now and into the future,” President Chris Mitchell said.
