The Shire of Broome has grand plans for the future of sport locally, with the community invited to have a say on the review of the Sport and Recreation Plan.

Consultancy Paatsch Group have been appointed to assist the Shire in reviewing and updating the current Sport and Recreation Plan. This includes reviewing the masterplan for the future of the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

The Shire has already engaged with Broome’s sports clubs and the wider community to garner feedback on their priorities and thoughts on where efforts should be focused, with two workshops held and more than 150 surveys completed earlier this year.

The second round of public consultation will involve an overview of the consultation findings, draft recommendations for the sport and recreation plan and draft masterplan concepts for BRAC and surrounding sporting facilities.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said participation in sport was growing and the Shire wanted to forward plan what would be needed in relation to resources, facilities and infrastructure.

“The Shire has invested money to revamp our indoor and outdoor courts at BRAC over the last 12 months and the review of our Sport and Recreation Masterplan is the next step for the sporting community,” he said.

“I’d encourage anyone interested in sport to come along to one of the sessions and provide your valuable input.”

There are two opportunities to hear from the consultants involved and provide feedback, with both sessions to be held at the BRAC multi-purpose room.
