The Shire of Broome has formally adopted its new Community Safety Plan at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on August 28.

The Plan was shaped by the community through surveys, engagement stalls, workshops and feedback on the draft strategy, ensuring it reflects local priorities and concerns.

The Shire’s Community Safety Working Group also played a vital role in guiding the process, providing ongoing advice and acting as a link between Council and the wider community.

Shire President Chris Mitchell said the updated strategy builds on the progress of the 2021–2025 Plan, which delivered practical results such as improved public lighting, expanded CCTV, youth engagement programs, and stronger partnerships with police and local organisations.

“Our community told us that safety is one of their top priorities, and this plan reflects that,” Cr Mitchell said.

“It gives us a clear path forward—combining advocacy, partnerships and on-the-ground action to make Broome a safer, more vibrant place for everyone.”

The Plan will be implemented over the next four years with ongoing input from the Community Safety Working Group and the wider community.
