It’s time to start thinking about who you know who is doing amazing things in our local community!
The Community Citizen of the Year Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our local area. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.
Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:
- Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
- Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
- Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
- Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)
Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, culture, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the well-being of our community.
In 2025, the awards recognised Ash Schaffer as Young Community Citizen of the Year, Di Vomiero as Senior Community Citizen of the Year, and Bernadette Egan as Community Citizen of the Year.

Acting CEO, Jeremy Hall, said that with the initiatives that have occurred over the past year, there is no doubt that there are countless people who deserve recognition.
“Broome has a unique character and an incredible community spirit, and it’s important we recognise the people who help our town continue to thrive,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have so many selfless individuals in our town, and I encourage the community to put forward nominations for those who have made a real difference this year and deserve recognition.”
Nominations for the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Awards are now open until 31 October 2025 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate
