Construction on a new roundabout on Frederick Street is scheduled to begin on 28 January.

This will create an additional access point to Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC).

Estimated project timeframes are:

29 January – Work begins on the BRAC exit road. The public will no longer be able to exit BRAC via Frederick Street. No disruptions to Frederick Street traffic at this stage

March – Construction starts on a section of Frederick Street. This section of road moves to a sidetrack, and speeds decrease to 40km per hour

Early to mid-June – Project complete. Exit and entrance into BRAC via Frederick Street open to vehicles and pedestrians

Note that the dates provided are construction estimates that may be adjusted based on unforeseen circumstances.

Key benefits of the project:

  • Allow traffic to flow more seamlessly to BRAC's outdoor facilities.
  • Enhanced safety for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to and from BRAC and the Boulevard Shopping Centre.

Impacts on BRAC activities

To minimise congestion into BRAC during this construction the following measures will be made:

  • Relevant sporting clubs will be contacted by BRAC to provide advanced notice to their members
  • During times of high-volume activity, temporary traffic management measures will be in place at the Cable Beach Road East entrance/exit

This project is partially funded by the Australian Government Roads to Recovery (RTR) program, the Main Roads Western Australia Road Project Grant
