Broome residents are requested to nominate their local heroes, with the prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards to be held on Australia Day in 2021.

Each year some of the unsung heroes of the Broome community are recognised on January 26 for their selfless acts and remarkable achievements.

The winners in 2020 were Eunice Yu, Jesse Evans and the Broome Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Nominations can be made online at www.citizenshipawards.com.au in four categories – Overall, Youth, Senior and Community Group or Event.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said there were so many people and organisations worthy of being singled out for recognition.

“Broome’s community spirit is second to none – we have countless volunteers, social groups and initiatives that play a major role in making our town a better place to live, work and visit,” he said.

“Looking back through the winners over the years, it is clear to see there are so many people doing great things and working for the betterment of our community.

“I’d encourage all Broome residents to take the time to nominate others, with the Community Citizen of the Year Awards the ideal recognition of our unsung heroes.”

Voting for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards will close on December 21.
