Broome residents are invited to nominate their local heroes for recognition at the prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards, to be held on Australia Day in 2023.

Every year the unsung local champions of the Broome community are recognised on January 26 for their selfless acts and remarkable achievements.

There are four award categories that people can be nominated in – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Group or Event of the Year.

The Australia Day winners in 2022 were Annabella Thompson (Young Citizen of the Year), Chris Mitchell (Senior Citizen of the Year) and Jude Millard (Citizen of the Year).

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said with the events and initiatives that have occurred over the past year, there is no doubt there are countless people that deserve recognition.

“The Broome community is unique and we have fantastic community spirit and it is important to acknowledge those that keep this town thriving,” he said.

“Last year’s winners showed acts of commitment, and loyalty to our community and these are attributes I see from locals everyday in Broome.

“Our town is blessed to have so many selfless people and I call on the community to nominate the individuals and initiatives that have undertaken great work this year and deserve appreciation.”
