The transformation of Broome’s Town Beach area is set to continue, with a $9 million overhaul of the Roebuck Bay Caravan Park on the cards.

The Shire of Broome has undertaken a public tender process for the potential redevelopment of the accommodation site, with Councillors unanimously endorsing a preferred tenderer at Wednesday night’s September Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Discovery Holiday Parks Pty Limited has been selected to be granted a 21-year lease, which includes the option of a further 21 years of leasing the Shire-owned site, with the proponent committing to spending $9 million on the renewal of facilities.

This is proposed to include a new range of different accommodation options, a lagoon swimming pool and improvements to infrastructure and drainage at the site.

Discovery has also committed to a $500,000 start of lease fee for the Shire to improve and upgrade surrounding amenities in the Town Beach precinct.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said further negotiation would now occur before a contract is signed and the redevelopment of the caravan park would be another asset for Broome.

“The redevelopment of this site has been in the Shire’s gaze for almost a decade and it is fantastic that we now have the opportunity to improve what has become a dated caravan park,” he said.

“To have a private proponent willing to invest heavily in the facilities and take on a long-term lease gives us the surety we have been looking for.

“With all the investment and improvements that have taken place at the Town Beach precinct over the last 18 months, the caravan park’s renewal will continue the transformation of one of Broome’s most-iconic locations.

“I’m sure the prospect of state-of-the-art air-conditioned cabins and a lagoon pool overlooking Roebuck Bay at the caravan park will excite the community and be a major future drawcard for visitors to Broome.”
