Shire of Broome adopts bold new vision for place activation
Published on 25 August 2025
The Shire of Broome has officially adopted its 2025–2029 Place Management Plan – a forward-thinking blueprint that sets the stage for the continued revitalisation and activation of Broome’s most iconic precincts: Chinatown, Town Beach, and Cable Beach.
Developed in consultation with local stakeholders and informed by community feedback, the Plan outlines a clear and collaborative approach to creating vibrant, welcoming public spaces that celebrate Broome’s unique identity.
The Plan aims to enhance the vibrancy and appeal of these locations by supporting initiatives including markets, mobile food vendors, live music, fitness classes, temporary retail activations, community events, and family-friendly activities.
The Plan seeks to foster collaboration with local organisers, encouraging and supporting events and initiatives that contribute to the vibrancy of the town.
Shire President Chris Mitchell said the Plan captures the aspirations of a community that values connection, culture, and creativity.
“This Plan reflects Broome’s strong community spirit and our shared desire to bring our public spaces to life in ways that are inclusive, engaging, and uniquely Broome,” Shire President Chris Mitchell said.
“We’re proud to support local businesses, celebrate our cultural heritage, and make space for events and initiatives that inspire pride and participation.”
The Place Management Plan identifies a wide range of actions to be rolled out over the next four years – from youth-focused activities to markets, wellness programs, and improved transport options that enhance accessibility, safety, and sustainability.
