The Shire of Broome is providing a helping hand to a host of local community groups and charities, with Councillors selecting six worthy causes to provide grants to.

The second round of the Shire's COVID-19 Community Support Grants Program led to six submissions for funding, with all six organisations set to receive a grant between $2000 and $5000.

With an unprecedented year for Broome due to COVID-19 and the associated travel restrictions, the Shire has made a conscious effort to provide additional assistance to the community, both financially and socially.

As a result, the following organisations were awarded the grants at December's Ordinary Meeting of Council.

  • The Unframed Project - $2500 for a youth photography project.
  • Broome Golf Club - $1850 for a community event.
  • Headspace Kimberley - $4500 for a youth development project.
  • Incredible Edible Broome - $4550 to produce a Gardening in Broome guide.
  • Kimberley Arts Network - $4085 for promotion of the Broome Fringe Festival 2021.
  • Lions Cancer Institute - $2000 for a Mobile Cancer Screening Coach.
