Broome has been celebrated on the national stage, with the Shire winning a prestigious award for the Town Beach Foreshore Redevelopment project.

Back in September, the Shire claimed victory in the Playspace Award (>$0.5M) category at the WA Parks & Leisure 2020 Awards of Excellence.

This meant Broome was included as a finalist in the national awards, which were held on Friday, October 30 – with the Shire’s entry claiming top spot ahead of Councils based in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Bendigo.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the Town Beach Foreshore Development had revitalised the precinct and the award was major recognition.

“To win a national award is an amazing achievement given Broome’s regional status and the strength of the competition – it just shows how high the level of delivery of the Town Beach playground was,” he said.

“The whole Town Beach precinct has been transformed in recent years and is now a major asset for residents and visitors alike, with the playground much-loved by local families.

“I’d like to thank the State Government for their investment in the project and congratulate all those involved in making the new-look Town Beach a reality.

“With a new jetty to be installed by mid-2021 and the redevelopment of the Roebuck Bay Caravan Park on the horizon, Town Beach promises to be an even-more attractive destination in the near future.”
