The Shire of Broome is encouraging applications for the recently revised Events Development Funding (EDF) program.

The EDF is open for applications until 28 February 2022, for events occurring between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023.

The EDF has been developed to assist local organisations within the Shire to deliver events that benefit the local community.

To be eligible for the EDF program, projects and initiatives must be aligned with the Shire of Broome’s vision - A Future, for Everyone.

Grants of any amount will be considered, with $40,000 ex GST available for most, while events that achieve specific criteria are eligible for additional funding – the Pearls of the events calendar.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the EDF initiative supported the events sector and specifically Broome-based businesses.

“The Broome events calendar gets better and better each year, and gives locals and tourists the ability to immerse themselves in our fantastic culture, arts and music,” he said.

“A new feature of the grant funding is potential additional funding for events that broaden the events calendar.

“The events industry in Broome supports the economy, and provides jobs and job experience for locals.

“Considering COVID-19 is still a risk for the events sector, it is great that the Shire can contribute in a financial capacity to alleviate a small amount of this stress.

“I’d encourage relevant local organisations to consider the funding guidelines and submit an application if they have a suitable event in mind.”
