The Shire of Broome, in partnership with Broome Circle, proudly hosted a vibrant community celebration at the Broome Surf Life Saving Club on Thursday, 4 December, in honour of International Volunteer Day.

More than 50 volunteers from across the Shire came together for an evening dedicated to recognising the people who give their time, skills and heart to strengthen the Broome community.

The event featured live music, dinner, gifts, and the recording of a special episode of the Volunteer Champs podcast recorded by Goolarri Media.

Councillor Sean Cooper, who was in attendance, acknowledged the enormous contribution volunteers make across sporting clubs, community organisations, cultural groups, environmental initiatives and support services.

“Volunteers are the backbone of Broome, their generosity and commitment help make our town the connected, supportive and vibrant place we are all proud to call home. This event was an opportunity to give back—to celebrate their achievements and express our appreciation.”

The atmosphere at the Surf Club was warm and upbeat, with volunteers sharing stories, forming new connections, and enjoying a well-deserved night of recognition.

The Shire extended its thanks to Broome Circle for their collaboration, and to Goolarri Media for capturing local volunteer stories, which highlights the many ways volunteers contribute to community life in Broome.

The event was a resounding success and underscores the Shire’s ongoing commitment to supporting, celebrating and empowering volunteers.
