An exciting launch event titled Rediscover Jetty to Jetty is taking place next month to open the much-anticipated Conti Foreshore Shared Path and redeveloped Streeter’s Jetty.

The first part of the event will feature story telling from Yawuru elders, focusing on the heritage of the Women of Pearling statue.

The event will continue with free walking tours from the statue to Streeter’s Jetty. Led by Bart Pigram, participants will be treated to a wealth of knowledge of the trail, finishing with an unveiling of the new Streeter’s Jetty.

At Streeter’s Jetty there will be free fishing activities for kids, live music and catering is provided.

The focus of this event is to highlight the importance of the award-winning Jetty to Jetty trail, which was originally a joint Shire and Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) initiative.

The trail can also be discovered via the Jetty to Jetty app and the Shire is encouraging community members and guests to download it.

This app gives people the ability to take themselves on self-guided tours to soak up the beauty, culture and heritage of Broome’s beautiful Roebuck Bay foreshore.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said local history and heritage was so important and the event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate this.

“This event ties in new and old parts of Broome’s history,” he said.

“The Shire cares about the protection of its significant places and that is why the restoration of Streeter’s Jetty has been a key project to deliver for our community.

“This was followed by the Conti Foreshore Shared Path, which provides safe, well-connected pathways, making the Jetty to Jetty trail more accessible for all to enjoy.

“Another benefit to the Shire’s new Conti Foreshore Shared Path is that public art, such as the Women of Pearling statue, is more accessible.

“These two projects are cause for celebration, and we hope to see you at this special event.”

The Rediscover Jetty to Jetty event will be held on Saturday, July 2 from 10am to 2pm. For more information, click here. Bookings for tours are essential - to book, e-mail shire@broome.wa.gov.au.
