The Shire of Broome’s Quick Response Grants (QRG) program offers invaluable support to local not-for-profits and community groups, helping them respond swiftly to urgent community needs.

Whether it’s funding for a last-minute event, assisting with venue hire, or launching a recycling initiative, the QRG program ensures that no opportunity is missed, empowering local organisations to create a positive and lasting impact.

The QRG program provides grants of up to $1,000, enabling organisations to address immediate needs that fall outside the scope of the annual Community Development Fund (CDF). The program’s four funding streams include support for community initiatives, venue hire, community waste reduction/recycling projects, and the Junior Community Representative stream, designed to assist young people attending regional, state, or national events.

Shire of Broome President, Chris Mitchell, highlighted the program’s flexibility.

“The Quick Response Grants are a vital tool for our community. They allow organisations to address urgent needs that require immediate attention and create positive change on short notice,”

“Whether it’s a last-minute event or an urgent community need, the QRG program gives our local organisations the flexibility to act fast and make a difference. We are proud to support our community’s growth and resilience through this initiative,” he said.

One of the key benefits of the QRG program is its ability to support projects that arise unexpectedly or without prior planning. With funding available year-round, applicants can seize unexpected opportunities or address urgent needs, such as supporting a local clean-up or providing financial assistance for a young athlete’s competition expenses.

In addition to these practical benefits, the QRG program helps foster a sense of community ownership and responsibility. For example, the Community Waste Reduction/Recycling Initiatives stream supports local groups in organising clean-up events or launching sustainability projects—contributing directly to the Shire’s environmental goals.

The application process for Quick Response Grants is simple and efficient. To ensure a smooth submission, applicants are encouraged to apply at least four weeks before the planned activity to allow time for review and approval. Organisations can submit their applications directly to the Shire via email or hand-deliver them to the Shire’s Administration Office.

Past success stories illustrate the diversity and impact of QRG-funded projects. From clean-up events to helping local athletes achieve their potential, the QRG program continues to support Broome’s vibrant community and its future.

As the program remains open year-round, the Shire of Broome urges local not-for-profits and community groups to consider applying for the QRG program to support their immediate needs and make a difference in Broome.
