The Shire of Broome’s August Ordinary Meeting of Council took place on Thursday night, with the following outcomes:

  • A project proposed by Ardyaloon Incorporated for community basketball courts was endorsed, with the application to be forwarded to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund for funding consideration.
  • Magabala Books’ lease terms were renewed, with the Shire of Broome to provide assistance to the Indigenous publishing company and local cultural icon.
  • The Christmas closure dates for the Shire administration building, Broome Public Library and Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre were endorsed.
  • A contractor for RFT20/07 – the provision of security services – was selected.
  • The results of the recent Community Perceptions Survey were endorsed and are now available on the Shire's website.
  • Councillors adopted a new Shire of Broome Governance Framework.
  • The date of the September Ordinary Meeting of Council was changed to Wednesday, September 23.
  • The monthly statement of financial activity from July 2020 was endorsed.
  • The Minutes of the August 3 meeting of the Kimberley Zone were endorsed.
  • An urgent business item was raised, with Councillors voting to establish a perimeter fence around the Broome Visitor Centre to address security and social issues being experienced in the area.
