Youth Week rolls through Broome with strong community turnout

The Shire of Broome has wrapped up a successful Youth Week 2026, with hundreds of local young people taking part in a series of free activities designed to encourage participation, build confidence and celebrate youth in the community.

Across the week, skateboard and scooter workshops at the BRAC Skatepark provided structured sessions for all skill levels, with experienced facilitators from Freestyle Now supporting participants to develop new techniques and build confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.

The momentum continued at the Walmanyjun Cable Beach Skatepark, where two afternoons of relaxed sunset sessions brought young people together to ride, connect and make the most of the space in a supportive setting.

Youth Week concluded with the SKATE Party at BRAC Skatepark, drawing a strong turnout for an afternoon of live demonstrations, music and community celebration. Attendees enjoyed free pizza, slushies, face painting, body art and inflatables, creating a vibrant atmosphere to close out the week. 

Shire of Broome Acting Chief Executive Jeremy Hall said the week highlighted the importance of creating accessible opportunities for young people to engage, be active and connect with others.

“Youth Week is about recognising the contribution young people make to our community and providing opportunities for them to get involved, build confidence and have fun,” he said.

“The strong turnout across all events shows the value of creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people can come together and feel supported.”

The Shire of Broome acknowledges the support of Rio Tinto, whose sponsorship helped make this year’s Youth Week program possible.
