The Shire of Broome has organised an information session for anyone interested in finding out more about potentially becoming a Shire Councillor.

The Shire has three vacancies in the Broome Ward and one in the Dampier Ward in this year’s election, which will be held on Saturday, October 16.

An information session will be held in the Shire function room at 6pm on Tuesday, August 24, with prospective candidates able to nominate from September 2-9.

Shire of Broome chief executive officer Sam Mastrolembo said the information session was the ideal opportunity for anyone interested in getting an idea of what was involved in becoming a Councillor.

“Shire Councillors play an integral role in providing feedback from the community to the administration and make crucial decisions that impact our town,” he said.

“The information session will be relatively informal and allow potential candidates to find out more information, ask questions and learn what is involved in becoming a local government Councillor.”

Shire of Broome residents are also urged to enrol to vote in the elections, with the roll closing on Friday, August 27.
