Unfortunately, we must advise former Broome Shire President, Cr Harold Tracey, has been informed of his disqualification from the Broome Shire Council for not formally requesting leave for three consecutive ordinary meetings of the Council, held on June 29, July 27, and August 31, 2023.

It is, of course, recognised there were unfortunate circumstances surrounding the situation. However, advice from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries confirmed the Local Government Act provisions are firm regarding elected member attendance at meetings.

Cr Tracey has formally accepted the notification of disqualification.

Shire of Broome CEO Sam Mastrolembo said Cr Tracey would be a significant loss to the Council. He passed on the gratitude of the Council and Shire staff for his contributions, achievements, and leadership over many years, including his six years as Shire President.

The Shire has received advice that an extraordinary election will be required to fill his vacant seat in due course.
