The results of the October 18 Shire of Broome election have been confirmed, with the newly elected representatives officially sworn in on Monday, October 20.
A total of eight candidates put their names forward in the election, contesting four available seats.
The newly elected members include Desiree Male, Sean Cooper, Philip Matsumoto, and Peter Taylor – each elected to serve a four-year term, with elections held every two years.
At the Special Meeting of Council on October 20, Councillor Desiree Male was also elected as Deputy Shire President.
Voter participation was lower than in the 2023 election, with 11 per cent of the 9,689 registered electors casting a vote.
Shire President Chris Mitchell congratulated the elected councillors and acknowledged the dedication of all candidates who put their names forward.
“On behalf of the Shire, I congratulate our elected councillors and thank all candidates for putting their hands up to serve our community. It takes courage and commitment to stand for local government, and the community benefits from that dedication,” he said
“I thank everyone who took the time to cast their vote and make their voice heard.
“I look forward to working alongside the Council as we continue to deliver important projects, represent our community’s interests, and build on the progress achieved in recent years.”
