The Shire of Broome’s Youth Week 2025 has wrapped up after a fun-filled and successful week, with hundreds of young people and families participating in a range of free, inclusive and creative events held across town from 11 to 17 April.
The celebrations kicked off in style with a high-energy opening party at Broome Skatepark on Friday, 11 April. The crowd enjoyed professional skate and scooter demos, face painting, an inflatable wrecking ball, and plenty of free pizza and gelato. It was the perfect start to a week packed with fun, creativity, and community spirit.
From 12 to 14 April, young people had the chance to sharpen their skills at free skate and scooter workshops, guided by professional instructors. The sessions promoted physical activity, confidence-building and social connection in a supportive, welcoming environment.
Creative expression took the spotlight with illustration masterclasses led by acclaimed Yawuru artist Brenton E. McKenna at Broome Public Library. Young artists aged eight and over explored comic book storytelling and character development in hands-on sessions designed to spark imagination and creativity.
Exclusive sessions were also delivered for the young people at Broome Youth and Families Hub and Broome PCYC, giving them the opportunity to engage in both the illustration workshops and skate/scooter activities in a safe and supportive environment. These targeted programs offered young people a space to connect, build confidence, and express themselves creatively, while ensuring accessibility for those who may face barriers to participation.
Youth Week is nationwide initiative that recognises the contributions of young people and highlights the importance of youth voices in shaping our communities. It’s also a chance to connect young people with opportunities for learning, self-expression, and community involvement in fun, inclusive ways.
Shire of Broome President Chris Mitchell said Broome Youth Week 2025 was a shining example of the Shire’s ongoing commitment to delivering fun, safe, and accessible opportunities for young people.
“Youth Week is about more than just entertainment - it’s about recognising and celebrating the energy, creativity, and potential of our young people,” he said.
“We’re proud to continue investing in events that support youth engagement, create inclusive spaces for connection, and bring families together.”
Youth Week 2025 was made possible thanks to the generous support of Rio Tinto, INPEX, and the Department of Communities.
The Shire of Broome extends its sincere thanks to all families, vendors, and supporters who helped make the week a success and looks forward to continuing to deliver accessible and enriching opportunities for the Broome community year-round.
