Meet the team behind Backroom Press, Broome’s homegrown publishing house, and enjoy some nibbles while discovering the stories, people, and opportunities that bring Kimberley voices to life.
Backroom Press was founded in 2006 by three Broome friends, with the aim to publish entertaining and educational books from the Kimberley, WA.
Stories That Connect - Voices That Inspire.

Children's Book Week Visiting Author
Celebrate Children’s Book Week with visiting author Kelly Canby and enjoy a special opportunity to hear from one of Australia’s acclaimed children’s writers at this free public event.
Kelly is a Western Australian-based author and illustrator. Her books explore wonder, tenderness and the importance of ordinary moments.
Her books include A Leaf Called Greaf, Timeless, Fearless, The Hole Story, Littlelight, and Rodney.
Kelly has also illustrated a number of books for other authors.

Wandering Minds Trek comes to Broome
Bailey and her psychiatric assistance dog Rusty are walking more than 5,000 kilometres from Kalumburu to Albany, delivering over 200 free school and community presentations throughout Western Australia while raising $100,000 for the Black Dog Institute.
Wandering Minds is a grassroots mental health initiative combining endurance adventure, lived experience and evidence-informed mental health education.
Join us in listening to her powerful story of resilience, determination, and advocacy while she encourages people to embrace vulnerability and find strength in their own mental health journey.
