Investing in Broome’s Future: The Community Development Fund’s Impact
Published on 10 January 2025
The Shire of Broome’s Community Development Fund (CDF) is more than just a funding program—it’s a catalyst for change, empowering local organisations to enrich people’s lives, activate places, and enhance the Shire’s prosperity.
With applications for the 2025 CDF now open, this is your opportunity to bring your vision to life and make a meaningful impact.
Each year, the CDF provides grants to not-for-profits and community groups through three streams, catering to projects both large and small.
Stream 1 offers contributions of $500 to $10,000 for grassroots initiatives, while Stream 2 supports events with funding between $10,000 and $40,000.
For those invited to apply under Stream 3, PEARL events can access contributions exceeding $40,000.
Grants can be used for a variety of purposes, from marketing and venue hire to equipment purchase and transportation costs.
The focus is clear: to address Broome’s strategic priorities, which include fostering youth leadership, enhancing community safety, promoting inclusivity, and driving economic growth.
Eligibility criteria are straightforward, ensuring accessibility for organisations with the capacity to deliver impactful projects.
Applicants must be based in the Shire of Broome or partner with a local organisation, be incorporated or have an auspice arrangement, and secure 50% of project costs from other sources. In-kind contributions are welcomed, making it even easier to meet the criteria.
Past success stories highlight the diverse potential of the CDF. During the 2023/24 funding round the CDF funds supported a myriad of projects.
These ranges from the Broome Soccer Association’s development camp, which enhanced opportunities for young athletes, to RSPCA WA’s Community Action Day, which is a free event to offer support for those who are struggling financially to look after their pets through health checks, treatments, and education.
These initiatives not only met their objectives but also enriched Broome’s cultural and social fabric.
The application process is designed to be user-friendly, with detailed guidelines and a workshop to assist applicants.
The 2025 Grant Application Workshop, scheduled for 26 February, offers invaluable insights into crafting a strong proposal. Walk-ins are welcome, ensuring accessibility for all interested groups.
Applicants are strongly recommended to submit a draft application to the Shire officers for review and general feedback well in advance of the closing deadline to improve their chances of securing funding.
Shire of Broome President Chris Mitchell emphasised the fund’s transformative potential: “The CDF supports fresh ideas and enriches experiences our community can enjoy. I encourage all eligible organisations to apply and be part of Broome’s growth story.”
Applications close on 20 March 2025, so don’t miss your chance to contribute to Broome’s future.
