Broome’s not-for-profit organisations, sporting groups and community organisations are invited to apply for a grant of up to $5,000 from the Shire.

The Shire of Broome provided a helping hand to local community groups earlier this year by providing over $50,000 in funding to a range of worthy recipients as part of the COVID-19 Community Support Package.

This latest round of funding is open, with local groups able to apply for small grants, which are considered by the Shire’s Community Sponsorship Assessment Working Group.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said it had been a tough year financially for many charities and community groups, with the latest funding round available to help ease the burden.

“The Shire is acutely aware 2020 has been a tough year for many community groups, some of which have seen their usual funding avenues blocked due to COVID-19 and associated restrictions,” he said.

“There are so many fitting recipients of grant money in Broome and the Shire is committed to helping them wherever possible.

“Not-for-profit and social organisations play a big role in the social fabric of regional towns and Broome is blessed to have so many selfless groups and individuals.

“I’d encourage eligible groups to ask for more information and apply for funding assistance if they have a potential project in mind.”
